Treats from Brimfield....

So my friend Lis and I went to the Brimfield Antique Show a few weeks back.  It was literally the second day that I've had all to myself since Chris has been born, so I was like a caged animal.  I was looking forward to this thing as if it were the night before Christmas and I was eight years old again.  So, when the weather turned out to be phenomenal despite crappy forecasts and the crowd wasn't overwhelming and I had no cell service, I was about as close to heaven as I think I am ever gonna get.  Don't get me wrong I love being home with him but y'know once in awhile I like to spread my wings, act like a crazy woman and look at old stuff!

And I went nuts I tell ya, look at what I bought:

I know, I know I'm living right there on the edge man, who knows what I am liable to do next! Quilt squares, feedsack fabric and a piece of fabric with strawberries and a big old hole in it!  The orange and black squares in that top square is from the 1800's (at least that's what she told me), the feedsack fabric in the top right corner was from the 1930's and that strawberry fabric, I have no idea but I loved it so much that she charged me $2, (I think she felt bad for me...she was probably thinking, "oh poor girl loves the crappiest piece of fabric in this whole place, here have it for 1/2 off...")  Here's a close-up of the strawberry fabric that I am obsessed with:

Strawberries

It just makes me think of summer.  Too bad it's not big enough to make into a tablecloth and I don't know what to do with it.  Unless I get some aqua fabric and turn it into a patchwork tablecloth?  But I really don't want to cut this piece, what the hell is wrong with me?! I can't believe how long I've sat here talking about this dumb piece of fabric. Anyhoo.... you get the picture about this fabric.

I looked for vintage sewing patterns, because I just don't have enough, but no luck.  I bought my husband a vintage cocktail shaker but am saving the pics of that for when he's shaking :)  Funny thing, the guy who sold it to me had definitely shaken up a few for himself that am, and that's not just an assumption, he TOLD me! and he reeked

While we were there we came across a booth for Claudia Glassman.  Check out the link, this woman was so helpful and nice AND has been on MARTHA STEWART's TV show TWICE, in addition to being in a bunch of mags.  She's cool and I seriously could have hung with her all day, but she probably would have kicked me out after about 30 minutes.

I left her booth and all of a sudden could clear-as-crystal picture myself collecting all sorts of vintage fabrics, washing and ironing each with care, researching their significance and becoming a textile historian of some sort.  Selling my finds at antique shows and lovingly providing all my customers with interesting and relevant facts about the fabrics they were holding.  I left her booth not having a care in the world, feeling light and free and discovered... that I actually had cell service...

bye bye

Take me out...

.....of the ball park.  I know, I know not the right words, but my dear hubby and I decided to take our little man to his first game at Fenway.  Great idea on paper, difficult to execute let's see why:

Chrisfenway_32:05 start time = baby misses afternoon nap at 1pm..baby is rubbing his eyes the second we enter the park.

2:05 start time = baby misses afternoon feeding, so every time I take the baby to hold him, he dive-bombs into my chest attempting to latch-on through my shirt!  Luckily, we were at "family friendly fenway, and I was able to duck into a private area and feed our guy.

We had about 20 bags to manage between the two of us, in addition to our concession tray carrying our Fenway Franks, pretzel, mound o'mustard  and soda in a souvenir cup, this is when Chris decides to spit his binky onto the ground and start grabbing at everything we have in our hands.

Oh, and did I mention it was about 800 degrees, of course we were all slathered up with sunscreen, but still it was HOT.

And last but not least, Manny hit a home run.  Great news for the team, bad news for Chris.  The crowd went nuts, and so did he.  Big huge crocodile tears, and frantic screaming :(

We made it through three innings, got the family photos and spent like $700 dollars on souvenirs (imagine if he hates baseball when he gets older)!

So back to the car we went, loaded it back up and headed back home to the country, where we enjoyed the rest of the beautiful afternoon with a quick stop at our favorite farm stand for fresh veggies....Johnsonsfarm_4

Saying Goodbye....

So sorry I took an unforeseen blogging break due to the death of my grammy.  It was very sudden and took us all by surprise.  I could go on and on about my grandmother; how she raised five children with barely two nickels to rub together, how she was an unbelieveable cook and always had a stash of Chuckles hidden above her china cabinet.  As a kid we spent countless weekends at her home swimming in the pool.  The last time I saw her was at my baby shower last fall, somehow things always got in the way of another visit. I regret this immensely.   So if there is one thing that I can share, it's a hard lesson learned, if there's a note you've been meaning to write, a call you've been meaning to make, a drop-in that you've been meaning to do, go ahead and do it today because each day is a gift.  May God bless you all.

Ride 'em cowboy!

so the little guy is sleeping right now, he's drifted off into a state of bliss, with only his binky and blankey to worry about, little does he know that he's got these fancy new pants waiting for him when he wakes up:

can  you stand it!? Again, I bought the fabric from Repro Depot (it's Michael Miller if you are wondering) to make one of those shopping cart cover thingys and had some leftover, so I traced a pair of his pants and voila!  I'll post later when we do the fashion shoot!

Renegade Seamstress

Newskirt

Finally got some time in this weekend to sew for myself for a change... it was fun, but as the title of this post suggests, I didn't wash the fabric before cutting and sewing, nor did I surge or zigzag it so when it comes out of the wash it'll be a shrunken dishelveled mess, but who cares it was fun!   I used the hip skirt pattern by favorite things and Amy Butler fabric the band is some vintage (AKA old) fabric from my yiayia's stash.  I wore it all day on Saturday and managed not to get it dirty yet, maybe I'll just leave it on the wall in my sweatshop.

And speaking of old, check these out

Patterns

oh yeah baby, mom came over for a BBQ and brought me some free prezerinos.  If  you are wondering, yes she made me some clothes out of these patterns.  Check out the prices on some of these babies $1.00!  That's when sewing used to be fun AND economical, imagine that.....anyway, it looks one little friend may be receiving her own prezerino shortly, who cares what her mother says!

PS, happy fourth everybody be safe, and thank God for this country where we have these wonderful luxuries.
