A little goodness

So now that the world series has been won!  Life can now settle into a little bit more of a predictable routine around here. I joined my local CSA and last week was the first week to pick up our share, what a difference, and the food tastes a whole hell of a lot better, no lie.  With the kale that I got, I made this soup and here's how it turned out.

It was freaking good! BUT! If you are not using homemade stock, use LOW SODIUM canned broth, I didn't and we were sucking down pitchers of water.  Also,  I added the croutons myself, which is a great way to get rid of stale bread - I just put some olive oil, salt and pepper on it, grill up the bread, cut it into cubes, and topped off the soup.  Delish!

Now I am off to putter with this, we changed up the site a bit so now peeps can shop ready mades easier, and I have a place to put all the bags I make with no home, sounds like a win/win to me.  Hey, speaking of photography does anyone out there know a good tutorial on lenses?  Hope everyone has a good day, we are having a good one here in Red Sox nation.

Oh the glamorous life...

One of my lovely neighbors hosted a purse party last week - it was a success, hence the lack of posts, this girl has been busy, busy.  Which is a good thing, but with limited time on my hands, sometimes I feel like maybe I don't want to spend all of my evenings sewing, and so my procrastination routine begins.  Little bits o'progress amongst a myriad of other things:

Sewingdesk

a few bags, a glass of wine, a catalog from Rosie Hippo, and that red and white book back there is book by Mr. Rogers, whom I absolutely adore and have such fond memories of watching as a child.  Coincidentally, we share the same birthday!  When I get bored sitting at my sewing table I take a jaunt over to my cutting table:

where there is yet another bag in progress, sigh....Totally unrelated, but our girl Reece, is A-OK!  15% chance that the tumor wasn't cancerous and it wasn't.  She dodged a major bullet and now we are feeding her doggie doughnuts

now back to work...isn't the world series on or something?

Birthday Wishes

So my mama had a birthday this weekend, and her birthday wish?  To go to the White Mountains and leaf peep of course!  Our first stop was "the Basin"

Next stop on the tour was a trip down "the Kank"

Then we ended our day at a park in North Conway

All in all a very nice day, mama was happy for her family to be together, I was happy that she was happy, my brothers happy just because and Dennis happy for XM radio as there was a Red Sox playoff game going on...ahh the simple things in life.

A cute dress for the cutest little girl!

Thank you so much for your kind words regarding Reece, she's looking better and starting to act more like herself, hopefully those results come back as negative for a tumor, but we will see.

Anyway, my cute little niece Ellie turned two and what better way to celebrate than with Chocolate Lollipops!

Patternpic_2I used a pattern that my mom had actually used to make me a dress when I was a young gal myself!!  It's a McCall's quick and easy, from 1977!  The pattern consists of a pair of bloomers, a dress, and a smock. It was so much fun to make, as well as being pretty easy (except the sleeves, I thought it was going to end up being a Gordan Gartrell), but with my seam ripper handy, I managed to muddle through while keeping the adult language to a minimum.  Here's a pic of the finished product:

The dress is made out of a burgundy corduroy and the smock is removable so she could wear it with a pair of jeans and a turtleneck to change it up a bit.  The coolest thing is that it actually fit despite the fact that I had measurements from the summer.  Of course, I forgot my camera when gave it to her but I have a feeling now that I've made one thing for her, the sky's the limit now baby!

When I say enormous, I am not exaggerating, the vet said it weighed 10 lbs. She had an emergency splendectamy and is resting now, eating bits here and there but definately not out of the woods. We are awaiting the results of the biopsy, if it turns out to be cancer, she could live only 3 more months. Please send some positive energy to our favorite four legged gal & hug your pet extra today.

I'm not ignoring you

But sometimes I have to tend to my real life and leave the online one behind....booo hooo, but I got a funny email from Dennis' aunt, it was full of all these funny little male bashing sayings, and this one made me laugh out loud:

WOMAN'S PERFECT BREAKFAST
She's sitting at the table with her gourmet coffee.
Her son is on the cover of the Wheaties box.
Her daughter is on the cover of Business Week.
Her boyfriend is on the cover of Playgirl.
And her husband is on the back of the milk carton.

Thanks Meridel, I needed that!
